Dunsville Primary School

Working as one to achieve excellence through enjoyment

Headteacher - Mrs V Wilson

Year 6
Turquoise Class

Welcome to the Turquoise Class page!

My name is Mrs Schofield and I am the teacher in Turquoise Class. Mrs Shaw teaches the class on Fridays.

Mr Schofield and Mrs Wynne teach the class at different times during the week. Our PE days this term are on Thursdays and Fridays.

Please take a look at some of our lovely displays. They show what we are learning about in the curriculum.

PGL Dearne Valley

Here are some of our photos from our Y6 residential visit to PGL Dearne Valley. We had a fantastic time!

One of our activities was 'Buggy Building'. The children worked together to build a working car with barrels and wooden poles, and learnt how to tie a complicated knot to keep it all together.

These photos show our 'Jacob's Ladder' activity. The children worked in pairs to help each other climb as high up the ladder as they could.

We also wore harnesses to take part in the 'Leap of Faith' activity. We cheered each other on to climb a pole to reach a platform. Some children took the leap of faith to grab a bar from the platform!

'Nightline' is where the children had to really work together and communicate! They wore goggles which impeded their vision, and they relied on each other to guide them through an obstacle course.

We also took part in problem solving activities:

One of our favourite activities was 'Quick Zip'. It was a great activity to enjoy with our friends!

We are learning about the Early British Empire in history.

Please follow the link below to find out more information about this period in history:

School Learning Zone - The British Empire

In science, we are learning about the circulatory system. We have learnt about how the blood moves around the body, and practised this on the playground!

Art and Design

In art and design, we are learning about Style in Art. Children will learn how artists use different techniques to alter their style.

They will learn about different techniques demonstrated by Stubbs in Whistlejacket and Munch in The Scream. They will go on to compare two radically different styles, rococo and modernism before using their knowledge of colour theory to design and create their own abstract work using acrylic on canvas.

Weekly Homework

Reading - If pupils read 3 times a week (and this is signed in their reading records), they will be able to move their name through the clouds. Once children reach the top cloud on the display, they will receive a prize!

Spellings - Every Monday, pupils are sent home with statutory spellings to practise for the spelling tests the following Monday.

Times Tables - To enable children to progress within maths, it is essential that they can recall their times tables up to 12 x 12. Weekly practice, using our times tables mats, will help children to improve their recall. The websites below have a range of games that can support children with this:
