Dunsville Primary School

Working as one to achieve excellence through enjoyment

Headteacher - Mrs V Wilson

Welcome to Amber Class!

Welcome to the Amber Class page! Amber is Nursery and it is also known as Foundation Stage One (FS1). Miss Thomas and Mrs Shaw are the class teachers for Amber class.

Here at Dunsville, we work closely with Aquamarine class (Reception) during child-initiated time, within our Foundation Unit. We have lots of staff in our foundation unit, who help to support and challenge us as we learn through play!

In our Foundation Stage Unit you will see: Miss Aspinall, Mrs Hall and Mrs Clarke everyday!

Every day we are busy exploring and investigating the different areas in our classroom both inside and outside. We are outdoors in all weathers and we love to explore and create our own new environments to play in!

Here are some photographs of us having fun in our provision:

We have been learning all about Heroes and Adventurers!

In our last half term, we have been learning all about animals and their babies.  In our final half term of the year, we are now exploring how heroes and adventurers have travelled the world to discover new places . This topic will also help us to understand that there are heroes in our community, like police officers and fire fighters who help when we might need help.

Our topic book is The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson, a tale of a true adventurer (the snail) who travels around the world on the tail of a whale. The snail feels so small in the world, yet finds herself as the hero of the story, when she saves the whale from danger!

Phonics!

In Phonics, we have been practising our Phase Two skills that help us to recognise the sounds that letters make. We have enjoyed using these letter sounds to say the initial sounds for objects and people's names. We have also begun to write some of the letters with pencils, crayons, chalk, and paints. A skill we hope to get better and better at this term is 'robot talking', where we sound-out each sound in a word before blending the sounds together to say the word in full.

Maths!

In Maths, we have been learning about how numbers can be represented in different ways, developing our skills to accurately count objects and understanding how two groups of objects can make a larger total. We have also been looking at 2 d and 3 d shapes and exploring mathematical vocabulary in our play!
