Welcome to Amber Class!
Amber Class is our Nursery Class, also known as Foundation Stage One (FS1). Our class teacher is Mrs Combs, supported by Mrs Hall our teaching assistant.
At Dunsville, we work closely with Aquamarine Class (Reception) during child-initiated learning. Our Foundation Stage Unit is supported by a wonderful team of staff, including Mrs Oakes, Mrs Clark and Miss Atterbury, who are in the unit every day. Together, we provide a nurturing and safe environment, built on positive relationships with adults and peers. We provide learning opportunities that help children grow and learn, develop their independence and challenge themselves through play.

Our Day
Our days are busy, exciting and carefully structured to provide children with a balance of adult-led learning and opportunities to follow their own interests. We love exploring both our indoor and outdoor learning environments and we don't let the rain get in the way of our fun! Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather so they can enjoy outdoor learning throughout the year.

These stories provide lots of opportunities for children to develop their vocabulary, communication, comprehension and early reading and writing skills.
We are excited to introduce our first focus book next week - The Gingerbread Man by Maria Alperin. You can listen to a read aloud of this story below.
Our topic this half term is 'All About Me'!
Our topic this half term is ‘All About Me’. We will be learning the names of our body parts such as ‘head’, ‘arms’ and ‘ankles’. We will talk about how we grow and change from babies into grown ups. We will then look at photos of our families and talk about who is part of our family. At the end of the topic we will look at where we live and talk about places that we see and visit in our local area!
We will be reading these books to support our learning in Literacy and Understanding the World.
Action songs such as Head Shoulders Knees and Toes are great ways to get your body moving, and name different body parts too!
Phonics!
In Phonics we are practising our Phase One skills that help us to recognise the sounds we hear in our environment and making sounds with our mouths and body parts! For example, we will listen to the sounds we hear in our outdoor environment and we will make sounds by clapping, stomping and tapping our legs. We will explore listening to the initial sounds for objects and people's names. We will begin to make marks on paper with pencils, crayons, chalk, and paints. We will learn how to 'robot talk, where we sound-out each sound in a word before blending the sounds together to say the word in full!
Maths!
In Maths, we will be learning about colours and the colours we see in our environment. We will practice lots of sorting, matching and categorising. We will learn how numbers can be represented in different ways, developing our skills to accurately count objects. We will be looking at 2-D and 3-D shapes and exploring mathematical vocabulary in our play!

Below you will find the Parent forecast, curriculum overview, and the home learning. Homework is also uploaded on to seesaw each term. Please send any 'wow' moments that make you extra proud of your child so that we can celebrate them together!
Working Together
We believe that working closely with families is an important part of giving every child the best possible start to school. We have lots of fun each day, discovering new things, developing new skills and learning through play.
If you have any questions, concerns or simply want to share something about your child's learning, we are always happy to help or listen. By working together, we can help every child to feel happy, confident and ready to learn.
