Aquamarine Class
Welcome to Aquamarine Class!
Aquamarine Class is our Reception Class, also known as Foundation Stage Two (FS2). Our class teacher is Mrs Oakes, supported by Miss Atterbury and Mrs Clark, our teaching assistants.
At Dunsville, we work closely with Amber Class (Nursery) during child-initiated learning. Our Foundation Stage Unit is supported by a wonderful team of staff, including Mrs Combs and Mrs Hall, who are in the unit every day. Together, we provide a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to explore, learn, develop their independence and challenge themselves through play.
Our Day
Our days are busy, exciting and carefully structured to provide children with a balance of adult-led learning and opportunities to follow their own interests. We love exploring both our indoor and outdoor learning environments and we don't let the rain stop our adventures! Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather so they can enjoy outdoor learning throughout the year.

These stories provide lots of opportunities for children to develop their vocabulary, communication, comprehension and early reading and writing skills.
Phonics
In Phonics, we follow the Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) phonics scheme. This enables children to learn the sounds they need to begin blending and reading words as quickly as possible.
We use 'robot talk' to help children say the individual sounds in a word before blending them together to read the whole word. Children will also learn 'harder to read and spell words', sometimes known as 'tricky words'. These are common words that children need to recognise and learn to read and spell.
Once your child begins bringing reading books home, please support them by reading regularly, ideally every day. Sharing books and practising reading at home makes a huge difference to children's confidence and progress.
Maths
In Maths, we develop a deep understanding of numbers to 10. Children explore number relationships and develop their mathematical thinking through practical activities and play.
We learn about concepts such as more and fewer, greater than and less than, one more and one less, doubling and halving, as well as exploring shape, space, measure and patterns. We use a wide range of practical resources and real-life experiences to help children develop a secure understanding of early mathematics.
Important Information
Homework is uploaded to Seesaw at the beginning of each term. Children will also bring home a printed copy of their homework.
Working Together
We believe that working closely with families is an important part of giving every child the best possible start to school. We have lots of fun each day, discovering new things, developing new skills and learning through play.
