Welcome to Emerald Class
Hello. My name is Mr Brown and I am the class teacher for Emerald class.
Emerald class is a mixed Year 1/2 class. We work very closely with the other classes in KS1 - Diamond (Y1) and Garnet (Y2).
Other adults you may see working in our classroom are: Mrs Shaw, Mrs Cording, Mrs Stewart, Mrs Credland and Mrs Wynne.

We are learning about this term...
Marvellous Maths
In maths we are looking at place value upto 100. We will then look at money before learning about time. In money we will look at making different amount using pounds and pence. For time we will learn how to tell the time to the hour (o'clock) and the half past times.
English
This half term, we have been reading the book 'Wombat goes walkabout'. It is a story about a little wombat who digs a lot and thinks a lot! This thinking and digging might sound boring but actually helps the wombat to save the day when a fire rages through the Australian bush. Stay tuned for photos of our own versions of this story....

Curriculum
Take a look at what we are up to this half term...
English
We have been reading an adventure story called Grandad's Island by Benji Davies. As part of this unit, we have designed our own islands full of our exciting things that we would want to see on an island. We have worked on the story by adding actions to the words to help us recite what happens at each part of the story. We have been enhancing our vocabulary by using adjectives to describe characters and settings in the book.
Marvellous Mathematicians
We have been learning about place value. As part of the unit we have been counting on number lines and using number lines to help identify numbers which are less than, greater than and equal to.
Art
In art we have been learning about colour. We have used different artists such as, Van Gogh and Piet Mondrain to explore primary and secondary colours.
PSHE
We have been learning about 'Being me in my world'. During this topic we have been discussing different scenarios which could happen in and outside of the classroom and the different rewards and consequences we could get.
Computing
In Computing, we have been improving our mouse skills by using 'Sketch Pad' to create a piece of art work.
Science
In Science, we have been looking at the Human Body! We have enjoyed using our senses to identify and describe different objects and foods.
